Role of Neuroscience in Psychology

Neuroscience is brain science. Less bluntly, it’s the scientific study of the neurological system. Neuroscience investigates what makes the brain and broader nervous system function: biological and chemical processes. The two fields may seem to be incompatible because psychology focuses on the mental counterparts of physical sets of attributes while neuroscience concentrates on the physical counterparts. Yet, psychology does benefit from the study of neuroscience. There are various ways in which psychology and neuroscience might support one another. Together, the two fields can provide insights into issues such as neural development, neuropsychopharmacology, and plasticity, as well as topics relating to cognition and behaviour.
